TED Talk: What’s inside a star? The wonderful world of Spectroscopy

The wonderful thing about this talk that I found blog-post worthy was the fact that the topic it is on is something that I have always found incredibly tedious, as is the case with most people I think and yet I found myself clued to the screen listening to Garik Israelian talk, feeling my sphere of understanding expanding by leaps and bounds.  It really opened my mind up to the potential of what we can learn and the incredible exploration that is going on in our universe.

Great TED Talk: Dan Ariely: Are we in control of our own decisions?

Behavioral economist Dan Ariely, the author of Predictably Irrational, uses classic visual illusions and his own counterintuitive (and sometimes shocking) research findings to show how we’re not as rational as we think when we make decisions.

In a games related issue this makes me really rethink how I am going to structure the pricing for future products

Great Year for TED – Bill Gates Unplugged

Caught this talk from Bill Gates this week and although he may not be the most inspiring or poetic of speakers he is perhaps the most influential man in our lifetimes and that alone puts me in a state of awe to listen to. A man that can forever change the world perhaps more than any other single person alive has a mind that needs to be tapped to it’s fullest.

I remember when I first watched this speech, my brother and father were in the next room doing some tile work and I was standing in my brothers kitchen playing this on his TV while doing some dishes, standing there listening.  The last 5 minutes I just stood in the kitchen watching Jill, dripping plate in hand slowly soaking the floor infront of me, *drip* *drip* *drip* .  When she beautifully annunciated her last line I just began crying, unable to disconnect myself from the immense power of her words near the end, the tears just flowing down my cheeks… *drip*  *drip* *drip*
