Weather App for AWN not working: Network Error

Apr 19th, 2012 | By | Category: Linux / Freebsd

So the weather applet for AWN is definitely one of the most useful of the applets.  But I haven’t used it in forever because it stopped working and would no longer connect, kept telling me that there were connectivity issues.  It’s clearly not being maintained anymore as the fix was fairly simple and cuold have been implemented and pushed out in 5 seconds so you’ll have to fix it yourself. Here’s what you need to do:

Edit /usr/share/avant-window-navigator/applets/weather/ (you’ll need to be root)

and search and find the 3 lines with

and change to

they’ll have a bunch of other things in the lines that don’t need to worry about. Just find all instances of the and replace it with

Save the file, remove the weather app from your doc, put it back on again and viola! You’ve got live weather updates again.

Thanks for the fix, worked like a charm, I ended up installing avant mainly for the weather applet becuse it wasn’t working under the default dock bar in ubuntu, but I bet this would work, by editing the correct file for the default dock bar under ubuntu.
