Timezone offset in WordPress

Mar 5th, 2012 | By | Category: wordpress

This is more of a reminder to myself than anything.. But if you have a calendar plugin installed on wordpress that is syncing to a google calendar and the time of the events on your wordpress blog are completely different times than on your google calendar then you need to change the timezone in wordpress settings.

I know to 80% of people this is going to be a no brainer, but it’s a prime example of being too sophisticated in something can be a bad thing.. Because instead of searching for the easy solution of looking for a timezone option in wordpress I spent an hour hacking a way at PHP files to force it to ignore wordpress’s timezone attribute.  Bah, it’s as simple as going into settings, general and then adjusting the timezone from the default country at the top of the list ‘Abidjan’ you can set it to the actual country you live in.. But on the plus side I bet that some of you are googling Abidjan right now and will learn all sorts of new and interesting facts about a country that you didn’t know existed 30 seconds ago.  Yay internets!
