The dire situation in Haiti – What can you do?

Jan 15th, 2010 | By | Category: Links

According to recent stories we may be seeing up to 200,000+ people dead in Haiti and over 1/3 of their capital city needing to be rebuilt, which ranks it in as one of the deadliest natural disasters in human history and in the top 10 deadliest earthquakes ever recorded.  With the advent of microbloggin and the explosive use of SMS in recent years we are witnessing an almost immediate outpouring of support in amounts never before seen in comparable time frames.

So I wanted to just share some of the ways that you can give to those survivors in Haiti to help the Red Cross and other organizations do their part.  It is good to know that this money isn’t going to the Haitian government, which has devolved to a sess pool of corruption, in large part responsible for the death tolls being as high as they are.  I can only hope that this event will push the people of Haiti over the edge to stand up for their long corrupt government that has been profiteering off of their hardship while keeping the entire country at sub-human conditions for far too long.

  1. From your Mobile phone simple text  HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 to RedCross relief
  2. Through the Yele Campaign you can donate online to a more customizable amount:  Go here for more info: https://co.clickandpledge.com/advanced/default.aspx?wid=23093

The UN is saying they need over 500 million dollars to adequately handle relief efforts in Haiti so that gives us a goal to shoot for, if you are able do your part and chip in to help these extremely unfortunate souls who are surviving the post-apocalyptic aftermath of this tragic event.

Email this to friends and family, retweet it or repost it on facebook to get more of the word out so people who want to help don’t feel helpless and do nothing.

Cheers

Ryan
